CFP Board Announces Release Date for Draft of New Standards

Certified financial planners, look for proposed changes to the CFP Board's Standards of Professional Conduct later this month.

The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards announced Tuesday that it will release a draft on June 20 of proposed changes to the Standards of Professional Conduct. Advisors certified by the CFP Board are expected to adhere to these standards when providing advice.

Following the release of the draft, the Board will take comments from CFPs and the public until Aug. 21 regarding the changes. Interested parties can attend public forums in the following cities, or submit written comments.

July 24

8-10 a.m., Tampa, Tampa Marriott Waterside

4:30-6:30 p.m., Atlanta, Westin Buckhead

July 25

8-10 a.m., New York, Westin New York Grand Central

4:30-6:30 p.m., Detroit, Sheraton

July 26

8-10 a.m., St. Louis, Sheraton Clayton Plaza Hotel

5-7 p.m., Dallas, The Westin Galleria

July 27

8-10 a.m., Phoenix, Hyatt Regency Scottsdale at Gainey Ranch

5-7 p.m., San Diego, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

The CFP Board appointed a Commission on Standards in December 2015 to periodically review the standards and recommend potential changes. The standards were last updated in 2008.
