Nearly 2,000 registered investment advisors will be among the 3,000 attendees set to meet up at TD Ameritrade Institutional's annual LINC conference from Wednesday through Saturday in San Diego.

"This is our biggest national conference yet," said TD Ameritrade spokesperson Joe Giannone.

Keynote headliners at the event, to be held in San Diego, include former Prime Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom, global futurist Lisa Bodell, former hacker turned cybersecurity expert Keren Elazari, as well as Salim Ismail, founder of ExO Works. Nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow will entertain attendees on Friday evening.

One of the conference's main themes is technology — including "the latest tools and how RIAs can implement technology to better compete in an increasingly digital world," Giannone said.

The conference will also include Veo Village, showcasing the firm's latest technology and integrated IT providers; TD Ameritrade staff will be on hand to answer questions and help advisors "learn how to get more out of the technology they're already using and evaluate new solutions," according to the conference website.

Veo One, TD Ameritrade's CRM and portfolio management platform, was launched last year. It allows advisors to bring their existing Veo integrated third-party technology applications (CRM, financial planning, portfolio management) onto one platform.

Conference sessions will also explore "demographics in the industry and why succession planning for tomorrow is critical for today," Giannone noted.

Skip Schwiess, head of advisory advocacy at TD Ameritrade Institutional, will focus his sessions on "the historic opportunity RIAs have in the retirement plan market," as well as assess the regulatory landscape, Gianonne said.

"Regardless of what happens" with the Department of Labor's fiduciary rule, he added, "we're encouraging advisors to differentiate themselves as fiduciaries."
