Members of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners today elected Ted Nickel, the Wisconsin insurance commissioner, to be the group's president for 2017.
NAIC members also elected Julie Mix McPeak of Tennessee president-elect, Eric Cioppa of Maine vice president and David Mattax of Texas secretary-treasurer.
All four of the 2017 NAIC officers were appointed to their posts by Republican governors.

Currently, John Huff of Missouri, who was named to his post by a Democratic governor, is NAIC's president, Nickel is the current president-elect, McPeak is the vice president and Cioppa is the secretary-treasurer.
NAIC members chose their new officers today at a meeting in Miami Beach, Florida.
The Kansas City, Missouri-based group helps state insurance regulators discuss financial services regulation issues and develop laws, regulations and operating procedures.
Nickel, the group's in-coming president, attracted national media attention this summer. The Obama administration proposed automatically shifting Affordable Care Act exchange plan enrollees who lost their coverage because of carrier exits into similar plans from other carriers. Nickel argued that the automatic shift violated many states' laws and regulations. The administration went ahead with shifting enrollees into new plans automatically, but it included provisions that are supposed to accommodate state laws and regulations that prohibit automatic shifts.
