Anthem Inc. (NYSE:ANTM) has put a little information about its sales, advertising and marketing costs in a document filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The giant health insurer said in its 10-K, or official annual report for investors, that it spent $1.4 billion on selling expense, or external broker commission expense, in 2015.

The selling expense total was 3.3 percent lower than the total for 2014, and 5.6 percent below the total for 2013.

Anthem's selling expense figure includes commission spending for all product lines.

The company also discloses its advertising and marketing spending total.

The company says it spent $313.5 million on advertising and marketing in 2015. That was 7 percent less than the company spent on advertising and marketing in 2014, and about 11 percent less than it spent in 2013.
