(Bloomberg) — Ten days before a key Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) individual major medical coverage enrollment deadline, 2.84 million people have selected 2016 coverage through the HealthCare.gov public exchange enrollment system, officials said today.
During the week that ended Dec. 5, 804,338 people chose plans, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
That's the biggest single week of sign-up activity since the HealthCare.gov markets opened Nov. 1.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the parent of CMS, uses HealthCare.gov to run PPACA exchange plan enrollment efforts in 38 states.
HHS will add millions of automatic plan renewals to the 2016 enrollment total sometime this month. The final total will also include millions of active plan selectors and people with automatically renewed coverage in California, New York and other states with state-based exchange programs.
