(Bloomberg) — Axa SA named Ronald Herrmann to head its U.S. financial protection business as France's biggest insurer seeks expansion in the world's largest economy.

Herrmann joins from Prudential Financial Inc. where he was executive vice president for distribution and sales, Axa said Thursday in a statement. He will lead the manufacturing and distribution of the U.S. unit's life insurance products and will report to Nick Lane, head of Axa U.S. Life and Retirement.

"Ron brings deep and proven experience in providing sales leadership through third-party relationships, which is critical to the future success of Axa U.S.," Lane said in the statement.

Herrmann had worked at Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. and joined Prudential when it acquired a business from that company. He replaces Manish Agarwal, who now serves as general partner of Axa Strategic Ventures in the U.S., according to the statement.
