New Hire Roundup: Franklin Templeton Adds Macey to Retirement Solutions Team

This week in personnel announcements and new hires, James Macey joined Franklin Templeton; Scott Kaul advanced at the Private Client Reserve;  Christian Thwaites joined Brouwer & Janachowski; and UBS added the Malof Group.

Also, Merrill Lynch welcomed Hyeon Kang and his team; Informa Investment Solutions added Chris Volpe; and U.S. Trust announced several new hires.

Franklin Templeton Welcomes Macey

Franklin Templeton Investments has announced that James Macey has joined the Franklin Templeton Solutions team as a senior vice president and portfolio manager with a focus on retirement solutions. Macey has been named a co-lead portfolio manager for the U.S. retail Franklin Allocation Funds and Franklin LifeSmart Retirement Target Funds.

With 15 years of investment industry experience, Macey was previously at Allianz Global Investors.

Kaul Advances at Private Client Reserve

U.S. Bank Wealth Management has announced that Scott Kaul has been named wealth management advisor managing director for the Private Client Reserve in Minneapolis.

Kaul joined in 1994, and has held various leadership positions throughout his career.

Brouwer & Janachowski, Inc. Adds Thwaites

Wealth management firm Brouwer & Janachowski, Inc. has announced that Christian Thwaites has joined as chief strategist. He will be a member of the senior management team and the investment committee.

With 30 years of investment management experience in the U.S., Europe and Asia, Thwaites was most recently president and chief executive officer of Montpelier, Vermont-based Sentinel Investments. He began his career as an analyst and portfolio manager in London with British merchant bank Samuel Montagu & Co. Ltd.

UBS Welcomes Malof Group

UBS has announced that the Malof Group, consisting of financial advisors Glenn Arthurs, Chris Malof, Jay Blair and Wyatt Arthurs, has joined in Buffalo.

Formerly at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, they report to Jay Berube and Sam Messina at the New York State Complex.

Merrill Lynch Welcomes Kang and Team

Merrill Lynch has announced that Hyeong Kang, SVP, and his wealth management team of Larry Dime, VP, Hung Tran, financial advisor, and Nick Zura, registered client associate, have joined in Bellevue, Washington from Morgan Stanley. Kang will report to Anthony DiBlasi, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management market executive, Evergreen market and Bank of America president, Seattle and WashingtonState.

Kang has been in the financial services industry for more than 10 years; Dime, more than 20; and Tran, three.

Informa Adds Volpe

Informa Investment Solutions has announced that Chris Volpe has joined as SVP of account management, overseeing the account management team.

With more than 20 years of experience in financial services, Volpe joins from Thomas Financial.

U.S. Trust Adds Several

U.S. Trust announced several hires over the past month. Among private client advisors, Elizabeth Hopkins joined in Richmond, Virginia; she previously worked at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. as a private banker. Carol Polasky joined in Dallas, Texas; she was previously with BB&T as a corporate banker. Silvia Salle joined in Houston, Texas; she was previously at BBVA Compass as a director of portfolio management. William Madden joined in Boston, Massachusetts; he was previously with Goldman Sachs as a private wealth advisor.

Private client managers Patrick Martin and Brandon Biery have joined, the former in St. Louis, Missouri and the latter in Wilmington, Delaware. Martin was previously a commercial banker at Reliant Bank and Biery was previously a private banker at Wilmington Trust.

Jennifer Castranova joined in Florham Park, New Jersey as a senior trust officer; she was formerly with Berkowitz, Lichtstein, Kuritsky, Giasullo & Gross, LLC as a trust and estates attorney. Xiaoyu Liu and Kenneth Rice have both joined in New York City, the former as a portfolio manager and the latter as a senior trust officer. Liu was previously a portfolio manager with Deutsche Bank's asset insurance management division; Rice was earlier a trust officer at Fiduciary Trust Company.
