(Bloomberg) — Goldpoint Partners, a private-equity arm of New York Life Insurance Co., hired former Blackstone Group LP Senior Vice President Sean D. Gelb as chief financial officer.

Gelb will oversee accounting for the firm and its funds, New York-based GoldPoint said Monday in an e-mailed statement. The company manages about $10 billion.

The hiring "is a strategic addition to our financial team and we look forward to the private-equity financial expertise he brings," GoldPoint Chairman John Schumacher said in the statement.

GoldPoint oversees funds for New York Life, the largest policyholder-owned life insurer in the U.S., and for pensions, financial institutions and high-net-worth investors, according to its website. The insurer has expanded in asset management by acquiring IndexIQ this year and a unit of Dexia SA in 2014.

Gelb was involved in administrative, accounting, tax and financial reporting for private-equity and tactical opportunity funds at Blackstone, according to the firm's website. Gelb holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Binghamton University School of Management, GoldPoint said.

The financial team at GoldPoint had been overseen by Chief Operating Officer Robert Barrack before Gelb was hired, the company said. Christine Anderson, a spokeswoman for Blackstone, declined to comment.
