Certified Financial Transitionist training offered through the Sudden Money Institute (SuddenMoney.com) consists of four parts, which can be completed together or individually:

  1. CFT workshop, either virtual or in person (minimum 8-hour commitment)

  2. 12-month core training, including a written exercise to demonstrate first-year competency in addressing client characteristics of transition stress (75 minutes a month commitment plus assignment exercises with clients)

  3. 12-month advanced training, including a written client case to demonstrate fluency and confidence (75 minutes a month commitment plus assignment exercises with clients)

  4. Three-day CFT certification workshop testing communication, technical and personal skill for working with clients in transition (20-hour commitment)

Most of the SMI training for CFT certification is approved for CFP and other professional CE credits.

The training program also includes several enhancements to deepen understanding and improve effectiveness with clients:

  • Four private coaching sessions per year with SMI faculty, covering client case support, practice management and business development (topics are determined by the advisor, based on current needs and interests)

  • Invitations to SMI community advisor trainings, task forces, community calls and webcasts

  • Transition Expertise Matters business development presentations, seminars, articles and training

  • Nearly 1,000 pages of CFT-centric worksheets, workbooks and protocols available for co-branding by CFTs in good standing
