This week in personnel announcements and new hires, Robert Johnson was named president and CEO of the American College; Cris Alvarez joined Cambridge Investment Research; Timothy Langbein joined the Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank; and CUNA Mutual Retirement Solutions announced that it has hired Paul Swanson and promoted Chris Phillips.

Johnson to be President, CEO of American College
The board of trustees of the American College of Financial Services has named Robert Johnson president and CEO, beginning Oct. 1.
Johnson, the author of numerous books and articles, is professor of finance in Creighton University's Heider College of Business and on the board of RS Investment Management. From 1996 to 2011, he held a number of senior executive positions at CFA Institute and has extensive experience with credentialing programs, ethical and professional codes of conduct, and global business expansion.
Alvarez Goes to Cambridge
Cambridge Investment Research Inc. has announced that Cris Alvarez has joined as vice president of business strategy, a newly created position. In this role, Alvarez will assist Jeff Vivacqua, senior vice president of business strategy.
Alvarez brings over 10 years of industry and business strategy experience to his new role. Most recently, his experience comes from various management roles within First Allied Securities in San Diego. His professional background reflects a career focused on strategic planning.
Private Client Reserve Welcomes Langbein
Timothy Langbein has joined the Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank in New York as a senior private banker.
Langbein has more than 15 years of experience. Prior to joining, Langbein was vice president at JPMorgan Private Bank, serving in various wealth management roles, including capital advisor and banker. His previous experience also includes financial planning, investment advisory and investment bank accounting.
CUNA Adds Swanson, Advances Phillips
CUNA Mutual Retirement Solutions announced that it has hired Paul Swanson as vice president, intermediary sales and institutional relationship management. This new position consolidates areas led by Micah DiSalvo and Bill Feldmaier, who resigned earlier this year. Swanson reports to Paul Chong, senior vice president.
In addition, Chris Phillips has been promoted to director, institutional sales, reporting to Swanson.
Swanson joins with more than 26 years of experience in the retirement industry and of sales and sales leadership positions at companies such as ING, Prudential Retirement and Lincoln Financial Group. He was most recently managing director of the intermediary-sold DCIO and subadvisory markets for SEI Investments.
