The Standard pledges $250,000 for the OHSU Knight Cancer Challenge

The Standard Insurance Company, also known as "The Standard," announced a yearlong fundraising initiative in support of the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and the Knight Cancer Institute during The Standard's 2014 Employee Giving Campaign. Meanwhile, Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife, Penny, have pledged $500 million to the OHSU initiative if they can raise $500 million in two years through the Knight Cancer Challenge.

The Standard has pledged a minimum of $250,000 to the Knight Cancer Challenge, and will raise funds through various events for employees, including the Jeans Day program. This program encourages employees to donate $100 or more to a designated nonprofit partner in exchange for the opportunity to wear jeans on Fridays.

Dressander|BHC welcomes Rob Murphy as national sales manager of the broker dealer division

Dressander|BHC, a nation-wide financial marketing organization, has hired Rob Murphy as the national sales manager of the broker dealer division, DBHC Advisory Network. Murphy has 17 years of experience in the financial services industry and has held senior sales and management positions with American Skandia, Western and Southern, and most recently with Prudential Annuities as vice president of strategic relationship management.

Symetra names Harry Monti to lead group life and disability income insurance operations

Symetra Life Insurance Company announced that Harry Monti will lead operations for its group life and disability income insurance business. As vice president of Group Life and Disability Operations, Monti will be responsible for leading the unit's administration and claims functions.

Monti has 25 years of broad financial, operations and strategic experience both in-house and as a consultant. He was director of the insurance advisory services with PricewaterhouseCoopers, and spent 13 years in senior level operational and claims roles within The Hartford's group benefits, retirement plans and enterprise-wide shared services organizations. He also has held financial management roles at MassMutual and UNUM.

David Shepherd joins The Phoenix Companies, Inc. as vice president and corporate auditor

The Phoenix Companies, Inc. (NYSE:PNX) announced that David Shepherd has joined the company as vice president and corporate auditor. Shepherd will lead the company's corporate audit department, and also will oversee the company's internal control program.

Shepherd was most recently assistant vice president, internal audit, at Lincoln Financial Group and has more than 15 years of audit, financial reporting controls and risk management experience in the insurance industry.
