Charlson Named to Head Morningstar Alternative Funds Research
Morningstar has announced that Josh Charlson has been named head of alternative funds research.
Prior to this position, Charlson was a strategist for the fund-of-funds research team. He oversaw Morningstar's annual target-date series research white papers as well as its quarterly target-date series reports and ratings and covered a number of risk parity, target-date, and other fund-of-funds strategies. Earlier, he served as a hedge fund analyst for the firm for two years and as a senior editor for Morningstar Associates for seven years, where he focused on retirement planning and advice solutions. He joined in 1990 as a mutual fund analyst.
Raymond James Names Walrond, Galvin
Raymond James has announced that Tom Walrond has been appointed chief operating officer and senior vice president of Raymond James & Associates (RJA) Private Client Group, the employee broker-dealer subsidiary of Raymond James Financial (RJF) and Tom Galvin has been promoted toNorth Atlanticregional director and senior vice president to succeed Walrond. In his new role, Galvin will be based in St. Petersburg; his responsibilities will encompass continued support of the coastal region within RJA's eastern division.
Walrond began his financial services career in 1988 and spent eight years as a financial advisor at Wheat First Butcher Singer in Philadelphia. He joined Raymond James in 1998 as a branch manager; eight years later, he was promoted to manager of the north Atlantic complex and following the firm's 2012 acquisition of Morgan Keegan, was promoted to north Atlantic regional director, overseeing 35 branches and 133 advisors.
Galvin spent his entire career at the firm, joining as an intern in 1997 and becoming a trainee financial advisor in 1998. He worked in theFloridadivision and took over the Jacksonville branch office in 2001. He was promoted to complex manager in 2006 and to regional director in the spring of 2012.
American Benefits Council Names New Board Members, Officers
The American Benefits Council announced that it has elected new officers and two new members of its executive board.
Janet Boyd, director of government relations, tax and benefits for the Dow Chemical Co., was elected chairwoman. She succeeds Wilma Schopp, global lead, compensation, benefits and HR operations for Sigma-Aldrich Corp.; Schopp becomes past chairwoman and remains an officer.
Also named as board officers are Jay Kirschbaum, senior vice president and national practice leader, employee benefits legal and research group, Willis Corp., vice chairman; Bob Holcomb, executive director, legislative and industry affairs, J.P. Morgan Retirement Plan Services, vice chairman; Kate Ranalli, regional benefits director for the Americas, AstraZeneca, treasurer; and Allison Klausner, assistant general counsel, benefits, Honeywell, secretary.
The new executive board members are Tresia Franklin, director, rewards and employee relations, Hallmark Cards Inc., and Mark Poerio, partner, Paul Hastings LLP.
