Germany has an official third gender

A new law in Germany has created a new gender. The law requires doctors to exclude categorizing intersex children as either "male" or "female" and allows medical professionals to leave the gender blank at birth. There are repercussions, however, as parents are hastily electing for "normalization" surgeries that certain ethics organizations decry.
