On Thursday the Federal Drug Administration issued a ruling that paved the way for the banning of trans fats. Hydrogenated oils, which are the main component of trans fats were deemed "not safe." Many companies have already tried to rid their products of trans fats due to their stigma but the ruling will not necessarily put the nail in the coffin for trans fats: they may still be used as long as they pass a rigorous safety test.
