Ibbotson released second-quarter data last month on target-date fund performance that shows the funds as a group are earning "respectable" returns. The Center for Due Diligence uses data from Morningstar and PlanTools, a subsidiary of Finanial Research Associates, to compile performance information on individual target-date funds on a quarterly and monthly basis.

CFDD recently launched a TDF Benchmark page on its website, which complements the TDF Performance page with a broader analysis of TDF performance as a group.

The following tables show the 15 best and the 15 worst TDFs for the quarter ending June 30, based on their one-year, three-year and five-year returns.
