An infected flea seems to have bitten and infected a 15-year-old herder in Kyrgyzstan, in Central Asia, with Bubonic Plague. Although the Black Death — as the plague is colloquially known — is now rather rare and cases, when identified early, can be treated with antibiotics, it is worth noting that in the age of Facebook and the exploration of Mars diseases such as the Bubonic Plague are not just Medieval relics.
