The Financial Planning Association announced Thursday that its board of directors has elected Edward W. Gjertsen II, CFP, as its 2014 president-elect.

Gjertsen's term as president-elect will begin on Jan. 1, 2014, succeeding incoming FPA 2014 President Janet Stanzak, CFP.

Gjertsen has held FPA leadership positions both locally and nationally, including a three-year term on FPA's Board of Directors beginning in 2010. In 2007 he was president of FPA's Illinois chapter, which awarded him the 2008 Heart of Financial Planning Distinguished Service Award. Additionally, he is a co-founder of the FPA Diversity Committee and was the committee chairman in 2010.

He has been a member of FPA since 1996.

"FPA continues to thrive and prosper as the largest membership organization of CFP practitioners in the country," Gjertsen said in a statement. "There are tremendous opportunities ahead for our members in their support of the practice and profession of financial planning. Through our expansive nationwide network of chapters, national conferences and technology platforms, FPA is the one connection to professional growth, business success, advocacy and community for likeminded CFP practitioners."

Gjertsen is vice president of Mack Investment Securities in Glenview, Ill. He has been a financial planner for more than 20 years and specializes in retirement planning, portfolio management and estate planning.

Gjertsen holds a Bachelor of Science in economics from Illinois State University.
