PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island's state-run health benefits exchange has released the monthly premiums for the 28 plans it will offer for individuals and small businesses under the federal health care overhaul.

HealthSource RI Director Christine Ferguson released the rates Tuesday for the 12 individual and 16 small group plans during a meeting of the exchange's advisory board.

Three providers are selling plans on the exchange in 2014: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island, a unit of UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE:UNH), and Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island.

Ferguson says it's difficult to compare 2014 plan costs with current plans because so much has changed under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).

An individual qualified health plan (QHP) rate summary chart shows that coverage will be available only in the bronze, silver, gold and catastrophic coverage levels, not the richest platinum level.

A 25-year-old resident could choose from a list of three bronze plans from Rhode Island Blue, with monthly rates ranging from $167 to $177.

At the gold level, the 25-year-old could get rates from either Rhode Island Blue or Neighborhood Health, with rates ranging from $262 to $283.

In the group market, small employers can get platinum coverage only from Rhode Island Blue; bronze coverage from either Rhode Island Blue or Neighborhood Health; and silver and bronze coverage from Rhode Island Blue, Neighborhood Health and UnitedHealth.

Small Business Health Options Program small-group rates range from $188 to $204 for bronze coverage and from $351 to $379 for platinum coverage.

UnitedHealth has made a point of putting "with Rx 14 with Acupuncture" in the full names of its Rhode Island SHOP exchange plans.
