Bamboozled: Life-saving transplant denied, health insurance canceled over 26-cent shortfall

Losing his job and his employer-sponsored insurance coverage shortly after being diagnosed with leukemia seems like a pretty rough string of luck. But after going on COBRA and accidentally underpaying a premium payment by 26 cents, Sergio Branco almost did not get the life saving transplant he needed. It is pretty easy to fall through the cracks when navigating the bureaucracy of health insurance, almost as easy as losing 26 cents.
