Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

-          Robert F. Kennedy

If you're like most people, you sat down at the beginning of the year and made of list of things you hoped to accomplish in 2013. So, how's it going? Are there goals still waiting for you to attempt them? If there are, most likely it's that old, familiar stumbling block — fear — that's stopping you. To make progress on your goals, you must confront your fear before you can begin.

Fear is natural; everyone is afraid of something. And most people allow fear to stop them from taking the necessary steps to achieve their dreams. Some people will go to great lengths to avoid facing their fear and for good reason: It's uncomfortable. Successful people, on the other hand, face their fear but don't let it stop them from moving forward.

Most of the good stuff in life requires some degree of risk. And the truth is that taking a risk means that you might fail. Successful people are willing to take a leap of faith, even if they are afraid. They know that if they don't act, the opportunity to get what they want will pass them by.

I truly believe that if a goal isn't a little bit scary or if it doesn't create a bit of fear within you, it's probably not worth doing. So many people stop when they get scared. I say, feel that feeling and get excited, because fear means you're on to something good!

Look back at your resolutions. Which have you been ignoring because you fear the risk you'll have to take to achieve them? Which have you been ignoring because you simply don't know where to start? What are the logical first steps that you can take to begin making these dreams a reality?

Acknowledge your fear and act anyway. A small step forward will help to build confidence and dissipate your fear. At the same time, it will create momentum and help you attract the resources you need to make your dreams come true. The year's not over yet; there's still time to check those goals off your list once and for all.
