Ireland’s parliament approves ‘life saving’ abortion

In the wake of a young dentist who died in a hospital after being refused an abortion, lawmakers in this staunchly Catholic country have moved to allow abortions in certain cases. The vote, which passed the lower house today, galvanized the country. Many feel much was left out of the law as it does not allow for abortions in cases of rape or incest while others think this is the first step towards legalized abortion. The vote still needs to clear the upper house of parliament.
