The National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) has installed Tom Harte has its 2013-2014 president.

NAHU represents about 100,000 health insurance agents and brokers.

Harte is head of a Chester, N.H., benefits firm. He made a splash in 2011 by helping to develop a NAHU video that called for consumers to help insurers, employers and brokers control large, unexplained differences in the rates providers charge for health care services.

Harte talked about the importance of alliances in a statement about his vision for NAHU.

"NAHU serves as a source of truth about health care coverage that links the needs of citizens, business and policymakers to create a healthy, more fiscally responsible American health care system," Harte said in the statement.

The new president-elect will be Ryan Thorn of South Jordan, Utah.

The other new officers are Don Goldmann of Orange, Calif., who will be vice president; Jim Stenger of Fort Myers, Fla., treasurer; Johnny Dawkins of Fayetteville, N.C., secretary; and Bruce Benton of Sherman Oaks, Calif., immediate past president.

The membership chair is Denise VanPutten of Grand Rapids, Mich., and the legislative chair: is Trei Wild of Plano, Texas.
