Has capitalism failed the world?

Was the global financial crisis the "result of a 50 year-long policy failure" as one of Britain's top regulators and academics put it? And, if so, have we done enough to change the structure of the system to ensure that we do not find ourselves here again? As protests continue to sweep the globe, what will be the impact of growing economic disparity, and how can we alter the course while maintaining our capitalistic principles?
