Three colleagues from the University of Leeds found that elementary age school children viewed a fat character in a children's story as less likely to do well in school, be well-behaved and be viewed as popular when compared to his regular-sized counterpart. The results of the study showed that children, at an extraordinarily young age, have already concluded that being overweight has a negative impact not just on one's health but also on one's social life. Is it true? Is it fair? As more and more people struggle with obesity one would think being overweight would be more accepted socially. Not in elementary school, apparently.
