The protracted — and quite political — battle over the availability of Plan B emergency contraception will continue as the Justice Department announced yesterday that they would appeal a decision by a federal judge last month stating that Plan B should be made available over-the-counter to all women regardless of age. The Obama Administration has been accused of playing politics, and ignoring science, with its claim that Plan B is only safe for over-the-counter consumption for women 17 and older. In what the Food and Drug Administration claims is completely unrelated to the maneuver, they lowered the age to 15 on Tuesday although that was not enough to quiet critics.
