Take a look at the isolated and embattled history of Chechnya and the other regions of the North Caucasus and the failed American dream that could have sowed the seed of extremism in the Tsarnaev brothers and a picture begins to form of two young men torn between their families' past and its failed attempt at a better future. We find Tamerlan as a fanatical partisan and Dzhokhar as a youth torn between the radical tutelage of his older brother and his half-finished assimilation into a Massachusetts teenager.
