A unit of CNO Financial Group Inc. (NYSE:CNO) hopes to expand its annual Alzheimer's Association fundraising campaign this year.

Bankers Life and Casualty Company will kick off its 11th annual Forget Me Days effort Friday in Indianapolis, with an event at a basketball game featuring the Indiana Pacers and the Milwaukee Bucks.

The first 8,000 fans who show up for the game will get a packet of Forget-Me-Not flower seeds.

Bankers Life will ask the recipients to take the seeds home and plant them in honor of families that are facing Alzheimer's disease.

In May, Bankers Life will send about 1,000 agents and employees out to collect donations for the Alzheimer's Association on street corners in 180 U.S. cities, up from 170 in 2012.

Consumers who donate to the fundraisers will get packets of seeds.

The 2012 street corner campaign raised about $320,00, and Bankers Life contributed $100,000 of its own cash.

The campaign has helped draw attention to Alzheimer's and raised a total of about $2.9 million, the company said.
