Insurance sales professionals know there is plenty of stress attached to their jobs. Each day brings an increasing number of competitors and the threat of rejection. Add to that the pressure to generate new leads, and it's not too difficult to understand where the stress comes from. There are, however, a few simple ways to reduce stress:

1. Start your day off right. Get into the habit of arriving at the office a little earlier than usual and give yourself the chance to ease into your day. Read through emails while you enjoy a nice big cup of coffee. Make your schedule for the day before the phone starts ringing with interruptions. This is a great way to set a positive tone that will carry you through the rest of your day.

2. End the lead-generation game. If you spend a lot of your time trying to dream up techniques to generate new insurance leads, you are losing time that might be spent actually selling. There are many ideas out there for generating "free" leads, but they can be hit and miss. Every hour you spend sifting through mailing lists is an hour you could have spent doing what you do best: selling. By purchasing qualified, exclusive insurance leads, you can free up time and reduce the number of rejections.

3. Keep your eyes on the prize. When a prospect you have worked with for weeks suddenly decides to go with your competitor, it can be frustrating. Overcome that negativity by keeping your focus on your ultimate goal, whether it be meeting a specific sales target or taking a big vacation. Think of rejection as a temporary obstacle you can overcome rather than the end of your quest.

Success in sales requires a firm commitment to your goals and the optimism and effort required to achieve them. If you find stress beginning to overwhelm you, take a moment for yourself, breathe slowly and deeply and remind yourself of the benefits you bring to your clients. Then take another step forward.
