Great LTCI producers deserve recognition

Consumers shopping for long-term care insurance today — especially those doing online searches — are seeking two things: Price and expertise.

You can't do anything about the first, but the second is completely in your hands.

That is a primary reason that my group, the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, established the Long-Term Care Insurance Sales Achievement Awards 11 years ago.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the Academy Awards nominations today. That program gives filmmakers a way to set themselves apart by recognizing excellence in cinema.

The AALTCI awards program gives agents outstanding opportunity to position themselves as leading experts as recognized by the association.

We rank entrants by state and, as a result, 50 producers can position themselves as the number-one long term care insurance in their particular state.

For larger states like California and New York, where there are more entrants, you can still enjoy the distinction of being among the top 10 or top 20 in the state.

Several years ago, in order to recognize and give a marketing opportunity to agents who started selling LTC insurance in the prior year, we added a category and started designating "rookies of the year."

The goal was pretty straightforward: Someone starting out in the business can not boast years of experience.

However, new producers can tell prospects they were recognized as being among the nation's leading first-year producers, an achievement only given to a few.

Of particular importance is the fact that relatively few agents enter this category.
