CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A state board chaired by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has approved a $6 million contract to market the state's health insurance exchange program.

The Board of Examiners on Tuesday approved the contract with KPS 3 Inc.

Past KPS projects have included a Text4Baby PR immunization campaign and campaigns for transit services in Las Vegas.

Stephanie Kruse, the principal, is a retired registered nurse who has been director of marketing for St. Mary's Health Network.

Funding for the exchange marketing and outreach campaign comes from the federal government.

Nevada last week received preliminary approval from the federal government for its health insurance exchange program, called for under the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).

The Silver State Insurance Exchange is designed to help individuals and small businesses obtain health insurance as required under the law.

Nevada's program is expected to begin enrollment Oct. 1, with policies taking effect Jan. 1, 2014.
