LICONY names board chairman

Bridget HealyThe Life Insurance Council of New York, Inc. elected Bridget M. Healy, executive vice president & chief legal officer of ING U.S., Inc., to serve as chairman of the board of directors for 2013.

Healy oversees the law, compliance, corporate responsibility and federal and state government affairs functions for ING U.S. In this capacity, she is also a member of the ING U.S. Executive Committee.

Previously, Healy served as senior vice president & group general counsel at The Travelers Companies, Inc., where she was a member of the Operating Committee, the company's top management body.

Prior to her years at Travelers, Healy served as vice president, general counsel & corporate secretary for Becton Dickinson and Company, where she was a member of the Executive Management Team. She also practiced law in the United States and Europe for nine years with Davis Polk & Wardwell and was a partner in the firm of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP.

Healy's prior legal experience included counseling boards on corporate governance issues and representing corporations, financial advisors and major shareholder groups in connection with domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures.

Healy received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, magna cum laude, and is a graduate of Brown University, with an honors degree in International Relations and French Studies.

John O'Gara and Richard Simonetti have each been elected senior vice president in New York Life's Agency Department, reporting to Mark Pfaff, executive vice president and head of Agency.

O'Gara is responsible for New York Life's wholesaling operations across all product lines within the Agency distribution channel including life insurance, annuities, investments and long-term care insurance. He also oversees New York Life's Dallas-based Advanced Planning Group, a team of attorneys, certified public accountants and other professionals with whom New York Life agents can exclusively work when serving affluent clients.

Simonetti is responsible for agent and manager recruitment, training and development. This includes growing the company's field force and sales among New York Life's key markets, including women, cultural markets, the LGBT community and young professionals.

O'Gara joined New York Life in 1984 and has held sales and marketing positions across various business operations. He is a graduate of Iona College with a major in business and finance.

Simonetti joined New York Life as an agent in the Long Island General Office in July 1996. Since then, he has served as sales manager in that office from 1998 to 2002, managing partner of New York Life's Vermont office from 2002 to 2005, and managing partner of the Greater Detroit office from 2005 to 2008. Mr. Simonetti earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is an active member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the Association of Advanced Life Underwriting and the General Agents and Managers Association.

Accenture (NYSE: ACN) signed a 10-year contract with Generali France, the second largest general insurer in France, to manage a portfolio of more than 100,000 individual life insurance policies that Generali France no longer underwrites, markets or promotes. Generali France is one of the main foreign subsidiaries of the Generali Group, Europe's largest life insurer.

The agreement, signed in February 2012, is structured to maintain customer service on behalf of Generali France while lowering operating cost. Accenture will re-engineer the insurer's policy management processes and increase automation through the Accenture Life Insurance Platform, Accenture's life and annuity insurance policy administration software. The platform has been adapted to the French individual life insurance market, including the French tax regime.

The Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) named George Kinigopoulos to lead the company's newly named MassMutual Greater Washington Agency in Bethesda, MD.

The agency was formerly known as The Washington Group.

Kinigopoulos, who recently took over the agency, said he changed the name to align better with MassMutual.

Kinigopoulos, a 25-year veteran of the financial services industry, plans to broaden the agency's multicultural outreach this year and expand into the Korean market. In preparation for the outreach, Kinigopoulos has brought on 15 new sales professionals and will add six more before year end.

Financial professionals at the Greater Washington Agency will continue to focus on helping federal government employees, small business owners and families, develop financial strategies to protect their loved ones and plan for a sustainable retirement, Kinigopoulos said.

Connecture, Inc. appointed Ryan Howells as vice president, government programs.

In this new role, Howells will be responsible for business development and client services and serve as the business executive sponsor for the company's StateAdvantage product suite, which has already been contracted by Minnesota and Maryland for their state health insurance exchanges. Howells joins Connecture after nearly a decade at iHealth Technologies, a national payment policy management company, where he most recently served as vice president, client services. His responsibilities included helping to build the government services team and leading the federal and state operational teams.

At iHealth Technologies, Howells managed an account that reprocessed inpatient and outpatient claims based upon specific requirements and identified savings associated with those claims in accordance with the CMS Recovery Audit Contract. The Congressionally-mandated Recovery Audit Contract program took effect in 2010 and identifies Medicare overpayments and underpayments to health care providers and suppliers. Howells is credited with generating more than $60 million in savings for the Medicare trust fund in little more than two years.

Prior to joining Connecture, Howells served in leadership roles at Daugherty Business Solutions, Computer Sciences Corporation (formerly First Consulting Group) and Health Net.

Howells earned his undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Southern California.
