A study by Fidelity found that a 65-year-old couple retiring this year would need $240,000 just to cover medical expenses. That's a 4 percent increase from 2011. But what about the individual costs for some of those elder services? Average annual cost of home care services: $20,800; cost of one bathroom renovation: $20,000; annual average base rate for an assisted living facility: $41,000. The list, and costs, go on and on—unfortunately.
