Some organizations have posted survey reports suggesting that many consumers and many employers are unfamiliar with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).

Those organizations have wondered whether even the customers who have heard about PPACA know much about what's in PPACA.

Analysts at Eastbridge Consulting Group are saying that the employers they survey do seem to be keeping tabs on PPACA.

Eastbridge polls a sample that's somewhat different from the sample other organizations tend to poll. The company looks only at employers with 10 or more employees, and the 10-employee cut-off excludes many microgroups that have no human resources manager.

About 63 percent of the 700 employers in the Eastbridge sample said they feel "very much informed" about PPACA requirements, and one-third said they  monitor PPACA developments closely, according to Eastbridge.

Eastbridge also asked how likely the participating employers were to eliminate their own health benefits and send employees to buy individual coverage through the new PPACA health insurance exchanges, or Web-based insurance supermarkets.

About 20 percent said they they expect to send employees to the exchanges for health and dental benefits, and 20 percent said they weren't sure.
