The executives of MetLife (NYSE:MET) today started their third-quarter earnings by acknowledging the calamity that made it difficult for some stock analysts to come up with the electricity and telephone service to dial in to the call.
Steven Kandarian, the chairman of MetLife, took a few moments to talk about the effects of Hurricane Sandy, which has killed at least 81 people, devastated communities from New York City to Cape May, N.J., and caused flooding. wind damage, power outages and gasoline shortages in a much larger area.
"I want to express my condolences to those who have suffered great loss as a result of Hurricane Sandy," Kandarian said.
MetLife is doing everything it can to help customers cope with the effects of the storm, he said.
