Following the 2008-09 economic collapse, more Americans are worried that they cannot fund a secure retirement. In a recent poll, 38 percent of adults said they are "not too" or "not at all" confident they will have enough income and assets for retirement, up from 25 percent in 2009. The lack of confidence was most pronounced in younger adults, in their 30s and 40s. That is not surprising, considering that age group lost the most wealth in the last downturn.
