Bankers Life and Casualty Company will be giving $420,000 to the Alzheimer's Association this year, up 8.8% from the 2011 total.

Bankers Life, Chicago, has been organizing annual Forget Me Not Days fundraising campaigns for the Chicago-based association since 2003.

The company sends employees, agents and other volunteers to seek donations from passersby, and it also makes corporate donations.

The volunteers collected $320,000 in donations this year from locations in 170 U.S. cities, up from $286,000 in donations in 150 cities in 2011.

Bankers Life will contribute $100,000 of its own cash this year. The company also contributed $100,000 last year.

The 10 Forget Me Not Days campaigns have raised a total of $2.9 million for the Alzheimer's Association, the company says.

Bankers Life, a unit of CNO Financial Group Inc., Carmel, Ind. (NYSE:CNO), sells long-term care insurance (LTC) and other products aimed at older consumers.

The Alzheimer's Association tries to reduce the risk of dementia, funds dementia research, and backs support programs for people with Alzheimer's and their families.
