Brain defect miraculously saves Aurora shooting victim (Huffington Post)

Petra Anderson, 22, was there the night a gunman opened fire on a crowded movie theater in Aurora, Colo. She was struck four times by shotgun pellets—three in her arm and one that went up her nose and hit the back of her skull. Anderson's doctors expect her to make a full recovery thanks to a small "defect" in her brain that only a CAT scan could see. The pellet traveled along a tiny channel of fluid running through Anderson's skull missing all the vital areas of the brain before it came to rest in the back of her skull. Surgery to remove the pellet took five hours. Anderson is already speaking and walking again.
