Prudential Financial Inc. (NYSE:PRU), Newark, N.J., has been named one of Black Enterprise Magazine's "40 Best Companies for Diversity."

Black Enterprise has been publishing the list for the last eight years. This year, the magazine compiled its list by taking into account whether companies have a policy of inclusion, in terms of both recruitment and retention; whether that inclusion makes its way to senior management; the composition of a company's corporate directors and development as well as the supplier pool.

Upon examining over 1,000 public traded companies with a heavy U.S. presence, the magazine composed the list.

"We are once again pleased to be part of this very important recognition. Prudential recognizes that in order to succeed we need the diverse backgrounds, viewpoints and ideas of many people working together to create value for our customers, employees and shareholders," said Ignace Conic, vice president, Diversity.

Prudential was named for a diverse presence on their Board of Directors. This is the second consecutive year the company has made the list. Other life insurers to make the list were MetLife and TIAA-CREF.
