Last week The New York Life foundation, the charitable arm of The New York Life Insurance Company (NY Life) announced a $250,000 grant to the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).

TAPS is a national organization that supports the families of deceased American military personnel. The grant from New York Life Charitable Foundation was used to fund TAPS's bereavement services held during their annual National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief camp that were held over Memorial Day Weekend in Washington D.C.

"It takes a community of care and support to help the families left behind by our fallen military service members. We are deeply grateful to the New York Life Foundation for stepping forward to be a title sponsor of the 18 Annual TAPS Military Survivor Seminar. They are truly making a difference in the lives of Military families who are grieving the death of a loved one in service to America," said Bonnie Carroll, founder and president of TAPS.

The grant was used to facilitate a survivor seminar where grief professionals along with nationally recognized public speakers participated in support groups, exhibits and remembrance rituals. Funding from the grant also was used for Good Grief Camp, where over 400 children and teens participated in bereavement activities. Workshops for professionals, which was also made possible by the grant, gave chaplains, mortuary staff, funeral directors and therapists tips for working with military survivors.

"We are honored to help provide vital resources to military families who, all too often face the death of a loved one," said Chris Park, president of the NY Life Foundation.
