Prudential Financial has secured a top spot on DiversityInc magazine's "Top 50 Companies for Diversity" list. A total of 587 companies entered into the competition, an 11% uptick from the previous year.

Prudential came in this year at number nine after being ranked at 16 last year, it was notably the only insurance company in the Top 10. Prudential has been a veteran of the list, making it into the Top 50 for the last 12 years.

"Prudential's move to the Top 10 this year is well deserved. This company has done more to help under-served communities than any company we know," DiversityInc stated.

Those endeavors by Prudential include its participation in the Children's Defense Fund, ASPIRA, Boys & Girls Clubs, and YouthBuild of Newark NJ, where Prudential is located.

Prudential's executive committee seem to be practicing what they preach and are doing more than simply funding these endeavors; nearly 70 percent of top Prudential executives sit on the boards of multicultural organizations and according to Peter Price, Director, Global Communications, Prudential Financial, executives have part of their compensation tethered to diversity through their performance reviews.

"At Prudential we know that in order to succeed, attract top talent and deliver to diverse markets we need to embrace employee's unique talents, experiences, insights and creativity. This can only come from an environment that supports diversity and inclusion as a way of life and seeks to embed this belief in every aspect of the business," said John Strangfeld, chairman and CEO.
