DI: Baby Bust Over

Companies that cater to the needs of new parents, on both the life and health side, should have reason to show a collective smile; Demographic Intelligence has predicted an increase in total US births in both 2012 as well as 2013.

Demographic Intelligence, LLC (DI) Esmont, VA., a provider of US birth forecasts and fertility analytics released the findings in a report published earlier this month.

During the apex of the Great Recession (2007-2010) the total fertility rate and the number of births in the US dropped seven percent. Now, as families begin to peek their heads out from under their storm shelters, the number of births in the US is rising according to the January edition of The U.S. Fertility Forecast, published by DI.

"Many women put off having a child in the wake of the Great Recession, now we think more women and couples have decided to go ahead and have a child, especially that second or third child that they put off at the height of the recession."Bradford Wilcox, president of Demographic Intelligence said.

There are, however, other reasons for the predicted rise in births according to DI. The number of American women in their childbearing years is rising, families are becoming averse to waiting any longer to have children and pronatalism remains high in the US.
