Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida is hiring Patrick Geraghty to succeed Dr. Robert Lufrano as chief executive officer.

Geraghty is set to take over from Lufrano Sept. 1, and the Florida Blue board plans to elect Geraghty as chairman that month, according to Florida Blue, Jacksonville, Fla.

Geraghty has been president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, Eagan, Minn., since 2008.

Geraghty has a bachelor's degree from Colgate University.

Lufrano announced his retirement earlier this year.

"Pat is a wonderful individual and an excellent leader," Lufrano says in a statement about the upcoming transition. "I have known and worked with Pat for a number of years and am confident that he, along with the strength of the leadership team and the employees, will continue to provide meaningful health solutions to our members."
