Rep. Jim Riesberg will resign his seat in the Colorado General Assembly to become the state's new insurance commissioner.
Riesberg, D-Greeley, who was first elected as a representative in 2004, will start work in his new role on July 1, says Gov. John Hickenlooper in a statement. Riesberg is now ranking member of the Health and Environmental Committee and a member of the Appropriations Committee.
The new commissioner will replace John J. Postolowski, who was appointed interim commissioner last December. Postolowski, with the Division of Insurance since 1998, will return to his role as deputy commissioner.
Hickenlooper says Riesberg "has deep experience as a legislator and public servant. He also has a distinguished career in the insurance, human resources and private sectors."
