Advisors looking for retirement facts and practice management tips along with a thorough examination of annuities may want to check out the Insured Retirement Institute's 10th anniversary edition of the IRI Fact Book, released Thursday.

The 2011 IRI Fact Book has been redesigned to better reflect the Washington-based not-for-profit's mission to serve as the authoritative source of all things pertaining to annuities, insured retirement strategies and retirement planning.

Weighing in at nearly 200 pages, the new Fact Book includes data about fixed and variable annuities but also for the first time addresses topics such as practice management and consumer research about retirement planning.

The book's table of contents includes a spotlight on retiring boomers, a primer on annuities products, a chapter dealing with consumer use of annuities and their attitudes about such products, a chapter addressing defined benefit and defined contribution plans, and information about regulation and taxation.

"The redesigned Fact Book marks yet another important milestone in not only the growth of our association, but the insured retirement income industry as a whole," said IRI President and CEO Cathy Weatherford (left) in a statement. "Through our expanded lineup of issues, information and data, this year's publication is truly comprehensive."

Other highlights from the IRI 2011 Fact Book include:

  • New statistics and analysis from industry experts
  • Edited and rewritten chapters from nearly two-dozen contributors
  • Ten new topical areas, including planning for rising healthcare costs
  • Five new research areas, including the chapter dedicated to consumers
  • Industry data and trends
