Like The Byrds' 1967 hit "So You Want to be a Rock and Roll Star" (Then listen now to what I say), an all-star panel of successful hedge fund managers will judge the best new investment idea at the 16thAnnual Ira Sohn Investment Conference. The winner will then be invited to present the idea before the roughly 2,000 people in attendance two days later at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Judges include famed investors Michael Price, Bill Ackman, David Einhorn, Joel Greenblatt and Seth Klarman.

The deadline to submit an investment idea is May 20, 2011.

Entrants must submit an online application that includes an analysis of a favorite current investment idea; selections can be any marketable security, long or short, provided that the company's market capitalization is greater than $1 billion as of 4 p.m. EDT on May 20, 2011. The judges will then determine the most compelling investment idea submitted, with a one-year horizon, and the winner will be invited to present the idea at the conference.

The submission timeline is as follows:

On Monday, May 23 at 9:30 a.m., twelve semi-finalists will be notified. Later that day, at 4 p.m., four finalists will be notified. Each finalist will need to confirm by 7 p.m. that evening that they will attend the conference and will be prepared to present the idea. At the conference at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, Michael Price will announce the winning idea and the winner will make their presentation.

The annual Sohn Investment Conference typically attracts highly-successful investors who present their best investment ideas. Portfolio managers, asset allocators and private investors have an opportunity to learn about the strategy and specific investment ideas. Funds raised from the conference support the treatment and cure of pediatric cancer and other childhood diseases. To date, the event has raised more than $20 million.

Entry fee is $100 ($25 student rate), which organizer's note, is fully tax-deductible
