The IRS has begun accepting applications for the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council (IRSAC), which provides a public forum for IRS officials and representatives of the public to discuss relevant issues regarding federal tax administration.
The IRSAC comprises 35 members, who are appointed to three-year terms by the commissioner. Applications for about a dozen appointments that will begin in January 2012 will be accepted through June 17, the IRS said in a statement released Monday.
"The feedback and recommendations from IRSAC members have and will continue to assist the IRS with a wide range of strategic initiatives," IRS commissioner Doug Shulman said in the statement.
The IRSAC submits an annual report to the IRS commissioner at a public meeting in the fall.
