7 ways to put those advisor business cards to use

As great as the Internet and social media are, most of us continue to do business with people we meet in our community. I recently bought 1,000 business cards, mainly because it was cheaper than buying 250 cards.

As I stared at this box that could easily be home to a loaf of French bread, I wondered, "What will I do with all of these?"

Well, small-business marketer, Eveie Fowler, had a suggestion. You might call it your "1,000 Business Card Challenge." After all, what could happen if you gave every one of those cards a life in your local world? Here are seven ways to put those cards to use.

1. Grocery store bulletin boards. Pin up three or four, and check back often to replace.

2. Banks. Put them near the ATM or inside if they will let you. Leave only a few in case they are thrown away.

3. Restaurant play places. Mom and dad are usually bored while the kids are playing.

4. Leave one along with the tip at a restaurant.

5. Leave one with the cashier at the grocery store or gas station.

6. Leave one with the guy or gal who cuts your hair (or nail stylist, tanning salon, etc.).

7. Leave one with the retail salesperson who helped you. They know sales and are usually receptive.

You have nothing to lose by giving out a business card-maybe they throw it away, maybe they keep it and never call, or maybe they become a client. You just never know.

I will share seven more of Eveie's ideas for spreading out those business cards next week.
