Here are five more creative ways to spruce up your newsletter this year:

1. Highlight archived webinars, podcasts and videos. By providing different types of media, you can communicate to clients, prospects and centers of influences in the way that is most effective for them. If you are sending a print newsletter, create a column or callout box that lists these same resources and directs readers to your website to access them.

2. Include links to connect on social networking sites. Tell your contacts how they can connect with you on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter by including a URL, button or badge. You can also do this if you have Facebook and LinkedIn business pages or groups you have created. Include the URL in your print newsletter for each of your social networking sites and your website.

3. Use your newsletter to build relationships. Feature COIs, nonprofits or clients. The process of writing the article creates a deeper bond between you and the subject. In addition, the person or organization featured in the article will be honored to be highlighted. Another variation is to invite a business owner or COI to write an article for your newsletter that educates your audience.

4. Highlight upcoming events. Provide information about upcoming events. These can be seminars, webinars, lectures, TV appearances or radio shows. Posting events reminds your readers of both your expertise and your community involvement. Depending on your marketing strategy, you may want to highlight events that are not strictly business oriented, such as charitable events you support.

5. Highlight media coverage. If you have been featured or quoted in a publication, provide a link to the article. TV and radio appearances can be featured by providing links to the video or podcast archived on the station's website. If using a print newsletter, include an "In the News" column with a summary of your appearances and a message directing readers to your website to access the entire list.
