The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) announced Thursday the launch of NAPFA Genesis, a networking group dedicated to the professional development of younger fee-only financial planners.

NAPFA Genesis, which got its start as an online discussion forum for students and planners under the age of 33, is a way for young advisors to share questions and experiences. It will be a place to gather through social networks and conference activities and is open only to all NAPFA members and affiliates who meet the age criteria.

The group is designed for:

College students, who can learn about a career in fee-only financial planning and gain access to internships and job postings;

Associates, who are new to fee-only planning and can receive support and career guidance from members;

Young planners, who can share best practices on everything from finding clients to office dynamics.

"We are hopeful the creation of NAPFA Genesis will help younger planners in the industry learn what they have to do to be successful while making fee-only financial planning stronger in the future," said certified financial planner David Grant, founder and volunteer leader of NAPFA Genesis, in a statement. "Those providing financial planning services are getting older so there is a need to develop a strong presence of competent fee-only professionals to help drive the industry forward."

Membership in NAPFA Genesis is free.  Communication between members will take place through NAPFA's internal collaboration groups and promotion through popular social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. To learn more about the program, email [email protected].

Since 1983, NAPFA has provided fee-only financial planners across the country guidelines for professional competency, comprehensive financial planning and fee-only compensation. The professional group has more than 2,400 members and is a member of the Financial Planning Coalition along with the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board and the Financial Planning Association (FPA).
