The New York State Insurance Department wants to hire fraud investigators for permanent, full-time positions based in New York City.

The insurance fraud investigators will be responsible for conducting investigations of felonies and criminal law violations involving insurance fraud and related crimes, such as perjury and insurance fraud investigatorswitness intimidation, officials say.

Investigators also will be responsible for securing statements, records and photographs to be used in court proceedings and administrative hearings.

Candidates should be prepared to conduct "surveillance of suspected and dangerous persons, locations and equipment associated with a case under investigation at all hours of the day or night in high-crime areas."

In some cases, officials say, investigators may have to act as undercover agents.

Candidates also have to be able to prepare reports and work with officials from other state and federal agencies.

Successful applicants will have a driver's license and several years of experience in conducting investigations.

Resumes are due Jan. 27.
